LA-1A Leveling Amplifier High-End Tube Compressor - Levelling Amplifier Developed together with David Gilmour !! The Effectrode LA-1A Leveling Amplifier was designed with one purpose in mind: to enable artists and engineers extract every last nuance from a musical performance… without compromise. Tubes are renowned for being unparalleled tone enhancers, adding warmth, depth and clarity to recorded and live instruments and Effectrode wanted to push their performance beyond current limits. To that end we based our LA-1A on a parallel tube plate design – the type of tube circuitry only ever found in high-end tube phono preamp stages for turntables (remember those?). Parallel tube design minimises the noise floor and maximises the signal to noise ratio of your instrument. It's an expensive way of achieving noise reduction, as four identical input tube stages are required, however it yields stellar tone quality without the compromise of noise gates or 'cutting' certain frequencies with equalisation. The parallel tube design has never been built into a stompbox or even a professional studio leveling amplifier/compressor before, making the LA-1A something truely special. The driving force behind this project has been customer requests for a four knob version of our legendary PC-2A photo-optical tube compressor to include attack and knee knobs. We also wanted to add some other really cool features, these include balanced transformer isolated output, gain pad, tube boost, dynamic equaliser and parallel tube input stage (4 triode tube gain stages in parallel) for hyper-quiet operation. This is technically the quiestest pedal or studio levelling amplifier ever made, enabling musicians to extract every last nuance from a performance, possibly the finest leveling amplifier you can buy… and it just so happens to be an Effectrode pedal The Leveling Amplifier’s has the same functions as a studio compressor. You have three large knobs for peak reduction, gain and a footswitchable boost with 6dB. Two small red pots are responsible for Attack and Knee, which are controlling the compression of the signal. The Leveling Amplifier has a transformer-isolated balanced output. On the back side you find in/out and remote switching jacks and two small toggle switches for setting the basic operating level at +6, +12 or +18dB, the second toggle switch activates the Dynamic EQ.
